Holiday Gifts for Quilters

Great holiday ideas for the quilter in your life...oh wait!  That's YOU!  This year, I added to my quilting "studio" a Martelli Cutting Mat and a Daylight Slimline lamp.  WOW!  I love them both and we have them in stock, just for you!

Daylight Slimline lamp (with or without weighted table base).  This takes up little visual space and the clear, beautiful light that it emits is bright and white...and I need all the light I can get!

Martelli Cutting Mats
(we have 2 different sizes in stock)
These cutting mats are really worth giving your old mat to a young quilter or sewist!

Here are some great features:
You can iron on them! (just make sure that you have at least one layer of fabric between the mat and the hot iron.
They are thick and are extremely sturdy.  This IS a self healing mat!  You don't have to worry about it warping in a hot car or in the sun.  You can "curl" it.  This mat will flatten out perfectly every time!
The markings on the mat are truly accurate.
These mats are truly reversible...markings on both sides of the mat, doubling your use of this mat it's value.

Westalee Ruler Work Kit - I know you have heard me rave about the Westalee templates, but there is reason why.  They enable all skill levels of machine quilters to quilt their own quilts at home!  How much money would it save you, if you could quilt your baby quilts, your table runners, wall hangings and bed quilts?  Probably a lot, right?  I can see many new quilters realize how unprepared they are when they start to machine quilt.  These templates enable them to know that they can quilt a particular design in a block...and there are hundreds of designs!

The Ruler Work kit will fit on any sewing machine (we need to know the make and model of your machine), it's just very important that you have some sort of extension table so that the quilt will move smoothly under the sewing machine needle.

And you get free New User classes to help you get started.

If you are already pretty good with the basic templates, then I encourage you to consider buying the "Continuum" kit.  Our "Continuum" classes (a 8 part series), are free to those who purchase the template kits from us.  They will be held on the second Saturday of each month.  We have the Continuum kits in stock too!   The Continuum classes will replace the Westalee Club.

Mystery Club notes from Pam...

Mystery Club #12 is headed for the final meeting of 2017.  Blocks will start to take shape as the pattern begins to emerge.  Think you know how this one will end?  Have patience, there are still surprises to come.  Join us on December 30th, and see what clues are given.

 Notes from Joey...

I'm so excited!  There are a few wrapped gifts under our tree and they are sooo pretty!  I think that they are all for ME!!

I don't think I have ever introduced my brother and sisters to you, so in the spirit of the holiday, (and because Mama is making me do this), I'd like to introduce you to my sisters, Sophie and Emma (on left pic) and my big brother, Jack, who is next to me in the other picture.

Can I open a present now, Mama?

  Licks and kisses, y
our pal, Joey

QUILTING ANGELS CHARITY BEE

This coming Monday, December 18 is the Quilting Angels Christmas party!  Anyone who has helped in any way with charity quilting in the past year is welcome to join us.  Please bring a potluck food item to share for lunch.  We will get started around 10a.m. with some games, then enjoy lunch together.  I will provide paper goods, plastic ware, cups, tea, lemonade, and ice.  Please bring a serving utensil for your dish.  If your dish requires bowls, please bring bowls to share!  Thanks.  We will celebrate a great year of making quilts for charitable causes.

I will be bringing some donated fabrics on Monday for anyone who wants to make a “challenge” quilt for charity.  What that means is, if you want to challenge yourself for fun, and help someone doing it, here is your chance.  The fabrics are all coordinated sets, and most of them don’t have patterns.  We give ourselves a year to finish the challenge quilts. This is only for people who want to do it.....no pressure!

I will be including the numbers of donated quilts and other sewn projects donated this year in next week’s newsletter article.  We did good!

If you want to get in touch with me, you can email Susan at charityquilting@quiltersemporium.com.

Join us Monday for a morning of fun and food!

MILLION PILLOWCASE CHALLENGE

I made the delivery to Silverado.  137 pillowcases! Yay, it was so much fun to deliver that many pillowcases for one month.

On top of the delivery to Silverado, Barbara and I worked on another project recently.  We were asked by the Breckenridge Village of Tyler to make pillowcases for their clients.  We happily delivered 42 pillowcases to them.  Each of their clients will receive a pillowcase this week at their Christmas party.

The holiday season is super busy with all the cooking, cleaning and gift sewing.  We all need a break between all of you projects and need something really simple to work on before you start your next big project, please consider sewing up a pillowcase for our hospices.  Both of our hospices will continue having new patients to serve even through the holidays.  Having someone in hospice is always a difficult time, but losing a loved one during the holiday season is extremely hard.  Knowing that people care enough to do something so special as making a pillowcase for someone they don’t know can be very heartwarming.

We will continue to keep pillowcase kits in the shop through the holiday season so that anyone willing to help with the Million Pillowcase Challenge can just pick one up.  The kits are free we just ask that they be returned to Quilter’s Emporium.  Once they are returned we donate them to Houston and Silverado Hospices.  Our December delivery will be made to Houston Hospice.

The national total as of Wednesday evening is 756,437.

Happy Sewing!

Judy Niemeyer Technique of the Month Class  – Cost $280

Judy Niemeyer began her Techniques of the Month (TOM) program in 2011.  Since inception, she has published a total of four designs:  Glacier Star, Mariner’s Compass, Paradise In Blooms, and Vintage Rose.  A new fifth design will be published in January 2019.  Here is your chance to “catch up” or get started into the world of Techniques of the Month.

The program presents various techniques in an escalating manner (beginner level first, progressing to intermediate level) so when you move through the pattern you are building your skill set.  Each design represents a grouping of techniques which sets up a number of other published patterns.  Regardless of your paper piecing experience (“never done it” to “expert”), TOM program is a great program assuring fabulous results.

Join Jan Mathews, Certified Instructor, with the pattern of your choice, for a fun and productive class.  You should complete your chosen design by class conclusion if you keep up with between-class construction.  The cost of the pattern is separate and dependent on your choice of quilt/technique of the month.  Glacier Star – base $65, extension to queen $25.  Mariner’s Compass – base $65, extension $25.  Paradise in Blooms – base - $95, extension $45.  Vintage Rose – wall hanging $65, queen $82.

Teacher – Jan Mathews

Saturdays - January 20 (fabric selection only), February 3, 17, March 3, 24, April 7, 21, May 5.  Classes are 11-5 on the first Saturday of the month and 10-5 on other Saturdays.  Fabric selection day is come-and-go.

Pinwheels! – Cost $40, includes pattern
If you ever wanted to make a pinwheel quilt, this is your chance!  Join us for a fun Saturday making half square triangles, sewing them into pinwheels, and planning your pinwheel quilt.  Learn to make 8 HST’s at a time!  We will also be spending time on setting triangles and re-sizing the quilt to be exactly the size you want!

Teacher – Elizabeth Oldham
Saturday, January 20, 10-3

Sew-cial General Sit and Sew - $10

Do you have a project that you need help or guidance with?  We have regularly scheduled sew days for folks who are specifically working on Judy Niemeyer projects, but were recently reminded that there's not a day set aside for general quilt projects.  Well, here it is!  Our knowledgeable staff is here to help you.
