We have had folks all year commenting on the beautiful Modern Antique Saturday Sampler quilt hanging on our design wall.  Now is the time to get involved with our next year-long project.  We are all very excited about the new design, Newfoundland Star, which will be available in two very different colorways, 1790's reproduction fabric in blues, yellows, and off-whites, and modern batiks in teals with pops of red, brown, and pastel orange.  We are committed to our Saturday Sampler ladies - we want everyone to be successful in the making of this quilt.  Classes will be held in the new year to help everyone enrolled in the setting kit elements, including the Feathered Star, the bonus setting blocks, pieced borders, and the chain that ties the quilt together.  Most of the regular monthly blocks can be assembled using Studio 180 tools, which are regularly taught at the shop.

If you have already signed up and not purchased the setting kit, you need to know that we need to acquire the fabric now.  Both colorways include fabric that will not be available after this month.  If you have not reserved a setting kit, we will not be able to duplicate this look.

Our new Saturday Sampler starts next month on November 3!   Choose your favorite option and pay $36 for your registration fee and first block.  It is possible that you can get all of the monthly blocks for just that $36!  Setting kit is extra, or you can take the blocks and set them any way you wish!  You may sign up by calling the shop at 281.491.0016.

AURIFIL'S ALEX VERONELLI will be visiting Quilter's Emporium on Halloween!  Let's show him our Texas "spirit"!   I'd love to have you guys fill the shop at either of the two lectures.  Door prizes, snacks and  giveaways will abound!  This is a FREE event so please sign up by calling us at 281.491.0016 and let us know which one you want to attend so we can make sure to have enough chairs set up.  We'd love to have you!   Joey will wear his Halloween costume....will you dare to wear yours???   AURIFIL is my thread of choice, you will love it too!

 Notes from Joey...

Happy Astros!   I am SOOO excited that the Astros are

I'm wearing my Astros shirt and I will try to keep it clean so I can show my 'stros spirit!

Rock on Astros!

As always, please keep an eye open for children or animals locked in a hot car!  Thank you!

Our October Quilting Angels sewing day is this coming Monday, the 15th.  Please join us anytime between 10:00 and 3:00.  We will be sewing and stuffing heart shaped pillows for breast cancer patients.  I was recently asked, “Why heart pillows?”  Good question!  These pillows are scooped at the top to fit under a reconstructed breast or under an arm.  They offer a cushion during a time of discomfort.  They are large sized, and have been approved by some of our ladies who have used them after breast cancer surgery.  All you need to bring is your sewing machine and basic sewing supplies. Everything is cut out and ready to sew.   These pillows will be donated to a breast cancer doctor at M.D. Anderson Hospital.

If you plan ahead, please put Monday, November 19 on your calendar for our next Quilting Angels day.  We will be sewing quilt tops that day.  I also have a lot of donated panels that need borders sewn on to make them big enough to be prayer shawls.

Thank you, everyone for all of your diligent work in making quilts and other sewing projects this year!  Let’s finish strong!

For questions or suggestions for the Quilting Angels, email Susan at

DRUM ROLL PLEASE!! Does anyone know what is better than a drum roll because that’s what we really need!  We BLASTED through all our previous Sew-a-thon records!  With all the numbers in, we completed 420 pillowcases with the 24 hour Sew-A-Thon!!!!  CONGRATULATIONS EVERYONE!!!  Thank you to everyone who attended, to the QE staff, to everyone who dropped off pillowcases, to all those who helped get kits together, and all of those who donated fabric.  Once again, everyone involved with QE has proven what wonderfully generous people shop and work there.  THANK YOU!!!

We donated 50 pillowcases to Park’s Youth Ranch.  There are currently less than 20 boys and girls living at the ranch.  They all seemed pleased to be able to pick out a pillowcase that would be their own.  Some had a little trouble making the final decision.  For safety reasons, we were not able to take any photos of the children.

We delivered 185 pillowcases to each Houston and Silverado Hospices from the Sew-a-thon.  Both of our hospices were thrilled!  We also made our regular September delivery to Houston.  That was an additional 155 pillowcases!

We received a delivery of 100 pillowcases that had been mailed to us from a group in Illinois for the victims of Harvey.  At this time, we have a couple of places to contact that we have heard are still taking care of Harvey victims.  Until these are delivered we will not put them into the count.  Hopefully that will change in the next week or two.  Stay tuned.

As of Wednesday, evening the National count is 776,682.  Quilter’s Emporium has donated 1,597 since the beginning of the year.  Our grand total since we started in 2010 is 13,959!  WOW!!  GREAT JOB!!

Happy Fall!
