Mystery Club notes from Pam...

The Mystery Quilt Club ladies have one more class session in the series for Mystery Quilt #12.  Not only will we reveal the final assembly instructions, we will also reveal the name of this beauty.  Shaded four patch, two color and three color hourglass units will come together in this unusual quilt.  As we watch each quilt progress to the end, we think you will be wowed with the completed quilts. Come join us; 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. OR 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

 Notes from Joey...
Mama was really excited when she came home from the Waco show.  She said it was a really good show, but I know she was just missing me and she was happy to be home.  Right?

I'm glad that it is warmer outside.  I don't really like having to wear a sweater all the time.  It messes up my hair!

and kisses, Joey

Charity quilting day comes early this month; this coming Monday, January 15.  Anyone who would like to sew for charity is welcome to join us.  We meet at Quilter’s Emporium at 10 a.m., and sew until about 3:00.  Just bring your sewing machine and basic sewing supplies.  We have quilt kits cut out and ready to sew together.  There are easier kits and moderate difficulty quilt kits for you to choose form.  We also have quilted quilts needing to have the binding sewn down by hand if you would rather help with that.

This year, the Quilting Angels will meet on the “odd”months to sew quilts, and the “even” months to sew on other charitable projects.  We always meet on the third Monday of the month.  We are planning to sew fidget quilts for memory care patients with Zoe in February.  More details about that later!

We are once more in need of batting, or money to buy batting.   Monetary donations can be made at the shop anytime.  Just ask the ladies working where the container is for Quilting Angel donations.  We make so many quilts that we go through a lot of batting!  We are almost at a standstill; just a few more quilts, and then we can’t finish any more quilts until we get some batting.  Seriously!

I have talked to many people who say that they have been meaning to join us on charity days, but just haven’t made it yet.  Make it your New Years resolution!  You will go home having made some nice new friends.  You can contact me at with any questions.

Hope to see lots of you this Monday, January 15!  Susan

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!  I hope 2018 is full of blessings for you and your loved ones.  I think most of us are glad to put 2017 behind us.

Sorry we have been out of touch the last couple of weeks.  Like you, we have had a lot going on with the holidays.  We are ready to get back into the swing of things!

We do not have the final numbers on the pillowcases yet.  We were unable to get to QE last week to do our final pickup and delivery to Houston Hospice.  I plan to take care of it on Thursday.  Karen’s Relay For Life team donated 80 pillowcases to raise funds for the American Cancer Society over the last 3 months.  Those 80 pillowcases are donated under the QE count.

The numbers we are currently looking at for this year put us about average of what we usually do in a year, around 1,500.  I think that is pretty good considering what our community has had to deal with in 2017.  We will get everything delivered and calculated for posting in next week’s newsletter.

While at the shop we will reload the drawer with pillowcase kits so that it is full.   Anyone willing to help with the Million Pillowcase Challenge can just pick one or more kits.  The kits are free we just ask that they be returned to Quilter’s Emporium.  Once they are returned we donate them to Houston and Silverado Hospices.  Our January delivery will be made to Silverado Hospice.

The national total as of Wednesday evening is 757,011.

Happy Sewing!

Tucker University – Cost $20
Join us for Tucker University...our fastest growing club program!

In January, we will learn all about the V-block tool!  We will be making triangle-in-a-square units, which are truly awesome for creating secondary curved patterns in quilts.  No curved piecing, just the illusion as a secondary design!  We will also use the ruler to make several derivatives of that unit, which can enhance your block designs in a variety of ways.

Judy Niemeyer Technique of the Month Class  – Cost $280

Judy Niemeyer began her Techniques of the Month (TOM) program in 2011.  Since inception, she has published a total of four designs:  Glacier Star, Mariner’s Compass, Paradise In Blooms, and Vintage Rose.  A new fifth design will be published in January 2019.  Here is your chance to “catch up” or get started into the world of Techniques of the Month.

The program presents various techniques in an escalating manner (beginner level first, progressing to intermediate level) so when you move through the pattern you are building your skill set.  Each design represents a grouping of techniques which sets up a number of other published patterns.  Regardless of your paper piecing experience (“never done it” to “expert”), TOM program is a great program assuring fabulous results.

Join Jan Mathews, Certified Instructor, with the pattern of your choice, for a fun and productive class.  You should complete your chosen design by class conclusion if you keep up with between-class construction.  The cost of the pattern is separate and dependent on your choice of quilt/technique of the month.  Glacier Star – base $65, extension to queen $25.  Mariner’s Compass – base $65, extension $25.  Paradise in Blooms – base - $95, extension $45.  Vintage Rose – wall hanging $65, queen $82.

Saturdays - January 20 (fabric selection only)
February 3, 17, March 3, 24, April 7, 21, May 5.
Classes are 11-5 on the first Saturday of the month and 10-5 on other Saturdays.
Fabric selection day is come-and-go.

How about starting 2018 with this 3-D, star-shaped pillow project? The intricate looking construction is made quick and easy with a clever
patchwork technique, and it’s perfect for scraps, jelly rolls, and charm squares.

The class is 2 sessions so you can leave the second class with your completed pillow.  Our fee includes the fusible interfacing which makes the piecing a breeze.

The pillow is so much fun to make, you might find yourself making more for gifts or to stack. Wouldn’t they be cute in a dorm room?!   Wherever this pillow lives, it will be a whimsical
focal point of the room.
