Stuff to know....
Congratulations to Elizabeth, Pam, Bonnie and Patti for designing such a beautiful project for our 2017 Saturday Sampler. (I had a little bit of input, but the girls did all of the hard work!) Last Saturday was absolutely cccrraazy! Over 50 people signed up and a lot of them prepaid for their finishing kits for the Saturday Sampler! The setting kits will be distributed in the November meeting so that they can start working on them throughout the year! Everyone seemed to be really excited! I think 6 of the ladies are doing two different colorways at the same time! The picture at right is the photo of one of the colorways...it's out of my new fabric collection Modern Antiques and was made by Elizabeth Oldham and it is just stunning! There are two other colorways, one in Autumn batiks and the last in Brights (which some people are calling Fiesta!). Each of the 3 colorways are slightly different in their setting kits. Come to the shop if you can to see the differences.
There is still time to sign up for Saturday Sampler! Our meetings are usually on the first Saturday of each month at 9:30 am, however because of Festival, our next meeting won't take place until November 11, at 9:30 am. Registration fee is $15 each. If you complete that months block and take it to the next meeting, you get the next months block kit for free. Each meeting all attendees receive a ticket towards the Customer Appreciation Day in February/March. There are several door prizes given out and we have Show an Tells and more!
The finishing kit is $250 and the quilt finishes at 90"x90". There is a over 17 yards in the setting kit plus pattern. You can continue this until all 12 blocks are complete. The final 4 blocks are a part of the setting kits. Each month there will be at least two free classes that will help you to learn how to make them. There are 4 different techniques that you can use to make your blocks and setting kit too! We are offering instructions in rotary cutting, paper piecing, Accuquilt and Studio 180 Rulers, so you get a chance to really learn some great new techniques! An Accuquilt cutter will be available for your use in these free classes so you have a chance to really try one out. Let us know if you would like to sign up to receive the monthy block kits. Just call the shop at 281.491.0016.
We will have a booth at Quilt Festival this year and our booth number is 2304, near the front but all the way in Exhibit hall A. Since we are participating in the Hop Around Festival Shop Hop, we'd like for you to come by! Festive Season is the fabric this year and it is a pretty metallic holiday themed collection! There are 10 block kits to collect at 8 booths which is EASY PEASY! Anyone can make it to 8 booths, right? Two of the booths won't be able to make it to festival, so we will be selling two block kits and another booth will sell two block kits too. Each block kit will cost $9 for a 12" block and there will be 8 different setting kits to choose from.
As always, Quilters Emporium will do our best to match all Janome, Koala, Accuquilt, and Westalee specials offered during Quilt Festival! We will be doing Westalee Quilting Template demos in the booth so stop by! When you purchase Westalee Quilting Templates from Quilter's Emporium, we will offer you free New User classes to get you started!
If you are needing to buy a new sewing machine, I'd like to invite you to come by the shop to see Janome. Janome has been in existence for over 150 years and is one of the 2 brands that actually manufactures their own machines! All of the machines that we carry have a stupendous 25 year limited warranty. We try to match any competitors price that we can.
Notes from Joey...
Did you see the pretty quilt that Miss Margie made using my fabric? It's terrific, I think she did a great job!
Thanks for bringing it to the shop and sharing it! I love it! As you can see, I even let her hold me! WOW!
See ya this weekend! Your pal, Joey
|QUILTING ANGELS CHARITY BEE|
The Quilting angels will meet this coming Monday to make simple heart shaped pillows for breast cancer patients at M.D. Anderson Hospital. These pillows will be given to patients who have had breast cancer surgery. We thought this would be a good contribution to make for breast cancer awareness month. We will begin sewing at 10 a.m., and continue until about 4:00. Anyone who would like to help is welcome to join us. Bring your sewing machine and a lunch. I have over 100 heart pillows cut out, ready to sew and stuff.
We received a very nice note this week from a friend of one of the Harvey flood quilt recipients:
Dear Susan and the other Angel Ladies,
Thank you so much for the beautiful quilt which we presented to Henry, who was having a very difficult time accepting the loss of his home and automobile. He had lived in the same place for years with his sister, who passed away last year. I think Henry felt he was losing her again. The quilt said so eloquently that people still care and that God still sends angels among us.
God bless, Ana
This is the reason we do what we do. You never know who will be touched and feel blessed beyond what we can imagine by the gift of a quilt during a difficult time in their life. I am so thankful that this thoughtful person took the time to let us know about Henry.
The next time the Quilting Angels will be sewing on quilts for charity is Monday, November 20. I hope you can join us on that day! If you would like to get ahold of me, please email Susan at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Cuddle up in a quilt! Susan
