SO glad to see that our first tropical event is a light one for the Houston area.  However, our thoughts and prayers go out to those in other areas that have been more deeply affected by the storm.

From now to July 4, we are hosting a terrific fabric sale (40% off of a huge selection of fabric on tables in the front of the shop!)  We will keep feeding the tables as space allows so come by and see if there isn't some great fabrics with your name on them!

Mystery Club! - Notes from Pam

Final assembly is upon us at last.  Calling all club members to join us for the big reveal. How exciting it is when the completed quilts come together, and we see so many quilts from the same pattern.  Information on the next Mystery Quilt will be coming soon.  All skill levels are welcome.

New fabric in the shop

This cute fabric collection just arrived and is perfect for gifting this quick and simple quilt to your kiddo or grand-kiddo this August!

There are two free downloadable patterns on the Blank Quilting website using the fabric. EASY and CUTE!

Next month, we will receive a new collection called American Dream -motorcycles, vintage cars, all things "Route 66"....terrific for that "man" quilt you want to make!  This motorcycle is one of the panels!  Cool, huh?

If you wish to participate in the 30 Week Wonderr, here is what you need to do:  select and purchase your non discounted fabric from Quilter's Emporium, any time from now through July 1 and then pick up your free weekly block patterns.  Participants should purchase 17 yards of fabric.  I know that sounds like a lot but this includes what should be enough for all of the blocks, borders, sashing options that you might want to do, plus enough to cover any mistakes.  Leftover fabric can be pieced into the backing.  The staff have pulled together some great groupings in the front of the shop for you to see to get some ideas.  We are even considering 30WW work days if you need help making any of the blocks or want some inspiration in pulling the blocks together.

Fabric suggestions:
4 yards of a focus
2 yards each of two lights, two mediums and two darks
1 yard of a pop of color.

When you purchase your fabric, be sure to tell the sales associate that your fabric is for the 30 Week Wonder project.  We will include you on the list of participants so that we can track your progress during the program.

Starting on July 2, each week (Sunday - Saturday) we will distribute a free quilt block pattern to the participants. When you pick up your weekly pattern in the shop (any day during that week), you earn a check mark indicating that you picked it up.  Don't worry if you miss a week or two, you can still get your missed patterns but you won't a check mark for the missed weeks. Each week, we will have a "shop special" just for the participants.

After the last pattern is issued, we will draw a winner from the names on the list with 25 checkmarks or more.  Everyone who came in every week and earned all 30 checkmarks, will earn 5 more tickets in the first prize drawing. The first winner will win their choice of a Janome travel sized sewing machine or an Accuquilt Go!  Did you notice that this winner doesn't have to do anything else except purchase their fabric and pick up the patterns each week in order to be eligible to win one one of the prizes?  You could even just use the fabric for other don't HAVE to make the blocks or a quilt!!!  You do not need to show your blocks each week.  This is not Saturday Sampler.

For the second prize, the participants may take their blocks and make them into a quilt top using any setting kit they choose. The quilt must use a minimum of 25 blocks and are due to the shop by February 28.   The quilt tops will hang in the shop during the month of March 2017.  The second winner will be chosen by Viewer's Choice voting and they will win the remaining prize.  If you have questions, please ask the staff.

 Notes from Joey...
Every once in awhile I like to look at this picture of me--I think it is the best one I ever took.

I am wearing the "Underdog" costume that all of my shop "aunties" got me for Halloween.  When I wear this, I feel fearless!

You can just tell that I am ready to "save the day" can't you?  Where's a "theme song" when I need one?

I'll see you in the shop on Saturday, won't I?

Licks and kisses, your pal, Joey!

The picture attached is Bonnie recently delivering the quilts we donated to the Fort Bend Women's Shelter.

They were thrilled to receive them.  Bonnie also showed the quilts to her friend whose daughter the quilts were donated in honor of, and she was moved to tears!  We can be proud of making a difference in some fragile lives.
The Wednesday bee ladies and the charity angels have been busy bees! Donna Timmer from Houston Methodist Sugar Land came by QE on Wednesday to pick up 99 burp cloths (too cute), 71 nursing pads, 9 nursing covers!  These items are being donated to the Community Baby Shower being held on August 3rd at Houston Methodist Sugar Land! This shower is for new and expectant mothers to help with basic needs!  We will continue to make these items on Wednesdays starting July 5th through July 19th and on July 17th! Please feel free to come by and bring your machines and colored threads to embellish these donations!
On Monday June 19, Pam Baum and Casey worked on quilting charity quilts for one of the Angels charity projects!  Thank you, thank you, thank you!

It’s going to be a hot weekend.  How about swinging into QE and grabbing a pillowcase kit or two?  Just the thing to work on in between your big projects.  The drawer is well stocked.  Anyone is well come to pick up pillowcase kits to take home and sew.  All we ask is that you bring them back to QE for us to donate to our Hospice Charities.

If you haven’t marked you calendars yet for this year’s 24-Hour Pillowcase Sew-A-Thon, please do.  The event will take place from Friday, September 15, 9:00 AM to Saturday, September 16, 9:00AM.  This has become an annual event at QE in conjunction with  Last year we made 310 pillowcases for our two Hospices.  Just because the event takes place for 24 hours doesn’t mean that anyone has to commit for the full time.  We would welcome any amount of help you are willing to offer.  Some people have just joined us for a little while when they have stopped in to shop, others have spent a part of their day and a few have actually stayed the full 24 hours.  The day is full of good company, good food and door prizes while doing something nice for someone else.  Please watch this newsletter as we get closer to the event for more information.  Don’t forget September 15 -16.

Stay Cool!

Happy Sewing!  Karen
