One more session remains for Mystery Club #13, where the final assembly will be distributed to club members.  This pattern will reveal a surprising secondary design we think you all will like.  If you were unable to be with us in June, your "clue" is waiting for you at the shop, or let Pam know so she can forward your instructions.  We completed Steps 9 and 10 in June.  In July we will reveal how to use those reserved pieces and units not used so far, so please bring everything in July.  We look forward to seeing you for the big reveal on July 28, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. OR 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

All of our Koala floor models are discounted 30% off of MSRP, you don't have to wait for your cabinet to be built and you don't have to pay for shipping!   It's ALL GOOD!

We have, in stock, a white SewMate, a teak Cub and a teak RollAbout.  Check em out and take em home!  We need to make space for new cabinets coming into the shop!

 Notes from Joey...

Mama is thinking of Christmas this week while we are getting ready for Christmas in July.

She found this picture of me...I think it is one of the first pictures that she ever took of me.  I was just a little baby and had surgery a couple of weeks before and my face was still shaved really close.  But look how fuzzy I was!  I am standing under the Christmas tree which was really low to the ground.  I don't even touch the lowest branches yet--WOW I was little!!!  This is making Mama smile.

Even though it is going to be really really hot, it's cool in the shop!  So come by or call to sign up for one of the Christmas in July classes.  I want to see what you are working on!

and kisses, Joey

As always, please keep an eye open for children or animals locked in a hot car!  Thank you!

The Quilting Angels had a fantastic day on Monday with 13 in attendance!  Angela from Parks Youth Ranch came and spoke to us about how they minister to the children who are housed there.  They have mostly teenagers, and include sibling groups, so they won’t be separated during a time of crisis.  They can take up to 20 youth who have been taken from their parents for various reasons.  We were delighted to be able to give them 33 quilts!  We told Angela that we would love for the kids to be able to keep the quilts they are given, because we can always make more.

Quilting Angels will meet again to sew quilt tops on Monday, August 20. Anyone who would like to join in the fun is welcome to join us. We had about six or seven chairs unoccupied on Monday!  Just bring your sewing machine, basic sewing supplies, and your lunch.  We provide the rest.  I have quilt kits cut out from donated fabrics, ready to be sewn together.

Our September sewing day will be the pillowcase sew-in hosted at Quilter’s Emporium on Friday, September 14 by Karen and Barbara.  They will be giving details in the newsletter between now and then.

If you would like to get in touch with me, please email Susan at

Families are like quilts, stitched together one piece at a time, Susan

Mystery Club
We have made at least four different blocks.  Some have constructed their project using traditional methods, others have given the Studio 180 rulers a try.  Either way, the results are going to be a spectacular surprise.  And so we have the mystery!  No more cutting for this series, but please bring all your fabrics and completed blocks.  We are going to start part of the assembly.
Come try to guess where this is going.  Hope to see you then!

We're still working on some details, but we want you to know about some of our great classes coming in the next few months!

Winter Traditions, a Niemeyer Snowflake Quilt, September 22, 23, 24

The Bucket List - Cathedral Windows - $60

Many quilters have a "bucket list" of quilts they would like to make, patterns that are usually traditional, designs that are easily recognized.  We are pleased to announce our first "Bucket list" quilt - Cathedral Windows.  This is not a difficult quilt to make, but it can be quite time-consuming.  After all the time spent putting it together though, it's finished, no quilting!  We have set aside 4 full days for our class to work on their quilt together.  We will teach the traditional method, which involves a bunch of hand sewing, and we will also teach a machine-piecing method.  As you know, there are always many ways to achieve a specific quilt outcome - you can choose the method that you prefer.  You choose the size you wish to create.  Join us and spend Thursdays in August making your own Cathedral Windows quilt.

Teacher - Pam Baum

Thursdays, August 9, 16, 23, 30, 10-5

Scalloped Borders and Bias Binding - $40

We have had numerous requests for a bias binding class and here it is!  If you have never made scalloped borders or curved corners because you weren't sure of the process, this is the class for you!  You will learn how to use a ruler to create scalloped edges AND you will learn how to cut, miter, and attach binding to curves, both concave and convex.

Teacher - Vikki Youngmeyer

Friday, August 24, 11-3 OR

Saturday, September 1, 12-4

Ventana - Cost $40

Join us for a class that uses the elegant new Holiday Flourish 11 fabric to create a fabulous Christmas quilt!  This is an extremely easy paper piecing technique, great for beginners.  The pattern is from Alison Glass,  a modern designer of great quilts and fantastic fabrics.  The pattern creates an interesting secondary design in this throw-sized quilt!

Teacher - Elizabeth Oldham
July 21, 10:30-5

Christmas Dresden
Neighborhood - $35

NOTE:  We do know that the picture at left is a Halloween Dresden Neighborhood (isn't it cute?), but we don't have our Christmas sample done yet and we wanted you to see the project asap.
Join us for a Sunday afternoon of fusing fun!  We will teach you the basics of making a happy Christmas neighborhood in the shape of Dresden plate, a great wallhanging to celebrate the holiday season.  You will create a variety of wonky houses to express your holiday vibe - silly, traditional, or whatever else you desire!

 Teacher - Pam Brown

Sunday, July 22, 12:30-5

Giving Tree Wallhanging or

Table Topper - $30

We have a great project that looks much more difficult than it actually is, suitable for anyone of advanced beginner stage and above.  Yes, it's curved piecing, but this is the Quick Curve Ruler method, which makes for beautifully perfect blocks.  For all who have listened to Pam Baum wax eloquent on the wonders of the Studio 180 rulers, you know that she loves to trim down her units to make them as perfect as possible.  Here is another ruler that follows the same principle, only with curves!  Join us for a fun day of sewing, learn the wonders of the mini-QCR, and make a great project all at the same time!

Teacher - Pam Baum

Tuesday, July 24, 11-3 (but you can stay later if you want!)

Disappearing Nine Patch,
Christmas Style - $45,
Includes 2 charm packs and pattern

We just love the variety of designs that can be created using this method of piecing.  In this beginner class, Pattie will lead you through the process of making nine patch blocks and then cutting them to pieces!  If you have ever thought that you might need permission to cut up your pieced blocks, Pattie is the person to encourage that practice.  For piecers of all skill levels, this is a class sure to be fun and productive.

 Teacher - Pattie Fox

Thursday, July 26, 11-3

BOWL FILLERS - $35 (includes panel, wools, threads, needle and class)

Bowl Fillers are the brainchild of Bonnie Sullivan (All Through the Night).  They are small  (4"x6") pillows that are beautifully pre-printed with a darling holiday design on a small panel.  You then fuse pieces of wool onto the fabric and embellish them with some simple stitching.  Each kit includes 6 little pillows and we are providing the wools, threads, etc for embellishments.  I plan on making mine into a holiday table runner which works better for my home decorating.  (Little pillows wouldn't stand a chance with my dogs!)  In the class, you can choose from two designs.  If you wish to do both, the extra kit is $28 (includes the extra panel, wools, threads).

Even if you don't know how to work with wools...this is the perfect little project that is fun to do and learn from!  Just bring fabric scissors, a small embroidery hoop and your eyeglasses.
