ONE AND DONE!  What's that????

One and done is a one day in-shop retreat where, for $125, you will get a completely precut quilt kit, lunch, snack and a goodie bag!  We start sewing at 10am and sew all day long.  You can even stay a bit late if you need to!  The goal is that you can get the project done in one day AND you don't have to press if you don't want to.  I will be on hand to press for you!  We will do all that we can to make it a nice summer day retreat for you.  Finished size of the project is 56" square.  That is a great size to put on a table, hang on the wall or back of a sofa.

The picture at right is an EQ7 representation of the project, but the project kit will be very scrappy in reds and creams/tans.

Our first "One and Done" is scheduled for Saturday, June 23 and will start at 10am.  Sign up asap as we are already getting bookings!  It should be a great deal of fun!  Hmmm, did I say "our FIRST"?  Yes that means that if this goes over well, we will repeat this event quarterly.  Something to look forward to!

KOALA "Mother's Day Financing Special"  May 11-13 - 0% no interest financing over 36 months on new cabinet purchases $3000 and more!

Are you looking for something to get the kids out of the house for a bit this summer? Well, we’re doing it again! Kids Kamp will take place June 11 to June 15 from 9:00 to 3:00. Children ages 9 years old and up are invited to attend Kamp where we will make several new projects. The cost of Kamp will be $150 per child for the week plus the cost of materials used in the projects.

Teachers: Bonnie McCormick and Pam Baum

 Notes from Joey...

TRANSLATION:  MIss Karen told Mama that Melody has a new forever home with Miss Gwen!!  (MIss Gwen...good move with the french fries!)

Now let me tell you about another pooch that needs a home.  When Mama went to the Tea in Texas party last Sunday, she met Miss Kerry Adams of WestburyCARE which is an Animal Rescue group.  We love, love, love Animal Rescues!

Mama found out that there is a dog called "Big Red" who has been in foster care for more than 700 days!  He weighs around 80 lbs, is 6 years old and is a happy, well behaved boy.  He is great with all people, including young children.  He is fully house trained and will never chew up your home.  His favorite thing to do is spend time with people, play in the yard and take naps. (who doesn't like that???)  He would like to be the only pet in the home, he will love you so much that one dog will be enough!  Big Red's picture is shown at right.  What a handsome fella...not as cute as me but then, who is???!

So if you know of anyone who might want to adopt Big Red, please email them at  Let's see if we can get him into his forever home too!

and kisses, Joey

I am happy to report that I delivered 15 lap quilts to Oncology Consultants in Sugar Land this week.  It was our first delivery since December, and they were starting to wonder if we were coming again.

The next Quilting Angels bee is Monday, May 21.  We meet at Quilter’s Emporium from 10:00 until about 3:00.  We will be sewing on quilt tops this month.   I have quilt kits already cut out, so you can start sewing!  Just choose the one you want to work on, and get started.  One benefit of a bee is that there are always several experienced quilters available to help with any questions.  So please don’t feel you can’t join us if you are a beginner.  Bring your sewing machine and basic sewing supplies.

I will bring two other possibilities of things to sew on if you would rather work on these: quilts that need hand binding sewn; and baby items for our community baby shower project for Sugar Land Methodist Hospital.  We are covering burp cloths, making two different kinds of nursing covers, and making washable nursing pads.

If you would like to get in touch with me, please email Susan at

Keep calm and sew!

Last week I mentioned a patient who received one of the patriotic pillowcases.  His family contacted us this week to report that he died.  They decided to bury him with his pillowcase.  Since he was a WWII vet his coffin was draped with the American flag and his head rested on his Stars and Stripes pillowcase.  According to a family member it was beautiful.

Happy sewing,

Karen & Barbara

Saturday Sampler

Our Saturday Sampler group is now halfway there - block 6 was distributed on April 7.  This block is a great opportunity to use the Studio 180 ruler Corner Beam, which we will have available for your use at our sew-ins this week.  Standard piecing will require templates to get the angles correct for the block.  Next month will be our first Lemoyne star block.  We highly recommend use of the Studio 180 Rapid Fire Lemoyne Star ruler.  If you do not already have this versatile tool, please consider getting one, especially if you will be making the setting kit as shown in our sample.  If you take our Tucker University Lemoyne Star Basics class, you receive a 15% discount on the ruler and instruction from teachers who have made hundreds of these blocks.  Sign up early - these classes will fill up!
